Visit of Indian Ambassador Sanjeev Singla

It was an honour to welcome His Excellency Sanjeev Singla, Ambassador of India to France and the Principality of Monaco, to the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir construction site in Bussy-Saint-Georges, Paris. His visit marked another inspiring milestone in the development of the first traditional Hindu temple in France.

Hisvisit marked another inspiring milestone in the development of the firsttraditional Hindu temple in France.

Upon arrival, His Excellency was traditionally welcomed and guidedthrough the on-site exhibition that presents the vision, history, and globalpresence of BAPS. He viewed a scale model of the upcoming Mandir, which offereda detailed glimpse into its architecture, layout, and sacred elements that willdefine the completed structure. His Excellency expressed appreciation for thebreadth of BAPS’s work, noting how these mandirs contribute positively tosociety.

His Excellency was then taken on a guided tour of the activeconstruction site, where he observed the intricate stone carving andtraditional craftsmanship that are central to the Mandir’s design. He showed akeen interest in the construction techniques and the collaboration betweenartisans in India and engineers in France to bring the project to life.Volunteers explained recent milestones and the careful planning involved inensuring that every element aligns with ancient Hindu architectural principles.Throughout the visit, His Excellency expressed warm admiration for the project,remarking, “It’s been a tremendous conversation blending together the artisticvisions, the craftsmanship of the artisans, and the engineering skills.”

The visit also provided an opportunity to present the Mandir’sbroader purpose as a centre for spiritual elevation, cultural understanding,learning, and community service. His Excellency recognised its significance forthe Indian diaspora as well as the wider French society, expressing, “We have asizeable Indian community especially in and around Paris. This temple will bean iconic symbol as a focal point for the community to come together tocelebrate so many occasions, whether they are religious in nature or culturalin nature, and that will help our younger community as they grow up here.”

Sanjay Kara, a trustee ofBAPS UK & Europe, added, “Every stone placed here carries the prayers anddedication of countless volunteers. We are grateful for His Excellency’sinterest in the craftsmanship and vision behind the Mandir. We look forward towelcoming people from every background to experience its message of faith,harmony, and spiritual upliftment.”
