The King and Queen were traditionally welcomed by Jitu Patel, Chair of the Board of Trustees of BAPS UK & Europe, and then accompanied them as part of an entourage guiding them on a tour of the Mandir.
During their tour, Their Majesties met several dignitaries connected to the Paris Mandir project, including Yann Dubosc, Mayor of Bussy-Saint-Georges; Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK; and Sébastien Bideau, Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy. Key members of the project team were also present, including senior architects from Arte Charpentier, directors from VINCI and GS Construction, and specialists from H. Chevalier. Renowned for their stonework engineering at Notre-Dame Cathedral, H. Chevalier will support the installation and technical integration of the Mandir’s hand-carved stone elements.
The project team described the unique collaboration between India and France at the heart of the Mandir’s creation: intricately carved Indian sandstone crafted by master artisans in India brought together with the precision and innovation of French engineering and construction expertise. Their Majesties warmly welcomed this fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques, reflecting the deepening cultural partnership between the two nations.
Their Majesties viewed the detailed scale model of the Paris Mandir and learned about its traditional architecture and cultural significance. Discussions with architects and artisans provided further insight into the craftsmanship, design process, and heritage techniques shaping the Mandir ahead of its opening next September.
Yogvivekdas Swami, Head Swami of BAPS mandirs in the UK and Europe, expressed gratitude for the Royal Family’s enduring warmth toward the BAPS community. He shared that just as Neasden Temple has, for over three decades, served as a centre for spirituality, community service, education, and interfaith harmony, the Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges will play a similar role for the wider community in Paris and France.
His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj conveyed his blessings through a letter and video message, offering prayers for Their Majesties. As they departed, Their Majesties expressed appreciation for the dedication and selfless service of the volunteers who continue to shape both Neasden Temple and the forthcoming BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Paris, France.
