Madame Pécresse was warmly welcomed by Sanjay Kara, a trustee of BAPS UK & Europe, and received with traditional greetings by Deepa Patel, a senior BAPS volunteer. She was guided through an exhibition featuring an architectural model of the Mandir and detailed drawings offering an insight into the traditional craftsmanship that is shaping the project.
During the visit, she viewed a short video highlighting the worldwide humanitarian, educational, cultural, and spiritual activities of BAPS carried out under the guidance and blessings of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. The video illustrated how BAPS mandirs across the globe serve their communities by promoting values of service, harmony, and personal growth.
Madame Pécresse then visited the Mandir construction site, observing the progress and learning about the intricate process through which handcrafted stones will be assembled in France using modern engineering techniques. Project representatives shared the vision of the Mandir as a place that will inspire peace and harmony while serving as a centre for spirituality, learning, cultural enrichment, and community service.
She remarked on the significance of the project, saying, “It will be an exceptional place in terms of architecture. People will come from all over Île-de-France, but also from all over Europe and the world to see this mandir, which will combine the best of French architecture and building with Indian craftsmanship and expertise here in Paris. A great joy and a great honour!”
Located in the heart of the Esplanade des Religions et des Cultures, the Mandir will contribute to the area’s longstanding commitment to interfaith dialogue and coexistence. Madame Pécresse further noted, “The Île-de-France region – the Paris region – is a global region. We welcome people from all over the world, both to study and to live and work here. So, this temple will be a beacon for us, both religiously and culturally. Hinduism and India are set to become very important partners for the Île-de-France region.”
Madame Pécresse also conveyed her gratitude and admiration for the volunteers supporting the project and shared that she would be keen to receive regular updates as the Mandir moves toward its anticipated completion next year.
Sanjay Kara added, “We were delighted to share the progress of this historic mandir with Madame Pécresse. Her support and encouragement mean a great deal to our volunteer community, who are working with dedication to bring this vision to life for France.”
